Colombia is the world's first bird diversity country. Here we can find 1,903 species, which is equivalent to 20% of the bird species on Earth. Also, 197 species of migratory birds arrive every year and 71 endemic species can be found. Close to the city of Cartagena, on the beautiful peninsula of Barú, we have the largest aviary in America - a tourist attraction that encourages the conservation, reproduction and repopulation of the Colombian avifauna
Start time: 9:00
Duration: 4 Hours
During our tour in the National Aviary of Colombia you take a stroll through 6 different environments, among them the tropical rainforest, the coastline and the desert. These are located in
an area of seven hectares where you can spot about 138 types of birds and nearly 1800 specimens, among them the Harpy Eagle, the Caribbean Toucan, the Pink Flamingo, the Red-crowned Crane and
the Condor. The transfer from your hotel to the Baru Peninsula takes about 1 hour, and on the way we pass the port and industrial area of the city, as well as the Canal del Dique. The guided
visit around the Aviary is about 3 hours. An official guide from the aviary accompanies us at this tour and gives all information regarding the different birds living here.
After our bird tour, we have the option to visit Playa Blanca (optional additional), which is without doubt one of the most beautiful beaches near Cartagena, before returning to the hotel.
